how can I hit it hit it high from twenty yards out?
I’ve been golfing for about a year now and i’m trying to figure out a way to hit a nice little pitch shot from about twenty yards out with enough trajectory to get at least over my head. any tips on how to hit this shot (pitching wedge is my highest lofted club)?
thanks for that, caddyshack. I’m getting a sand wedge and a lob wedge for christmas, but until then i’m stuck with the pitching wedge. i’ll try out your tips
With a pitching wedge that is going to be difficult. Remember a typical PW is 47-48 degrees… that’s a long way from a 60-62 degree wedge. So obviously my first piece of advice is to get a sand wedge and lob wedge. You will be absolutely amazed at the shot making capabilities of those clubs. That’s why most pros carry at least 3 wedges, and a good many of them carry 4 wedges. You should be able to find some good used ones at a local golf store, outlet, or online.
Basically though, you want to approach the shot just as you would a flop shot. You should be able to find golf tips for the flop shot online and in videos on youtube.
To put it simply though, you play the shot very similar to a bunker shot…
You open your stance, open the clubface, take a wider stance and swing with a mostly arms swing. This lets the club slide under the ball shooting it up much higher than normal.
Keep in mind though, that this shot is very difficult for most amateurs to do. The best thing I can tell you is to go to a practice green and practice this shot ALOT. The more you do it the easier it will get.
